Theotokos Panagia Portaitissa. One of the most beloved and miraculous icons of the Mother of God. According to tradition, the wound and drop of blood on her cheek appeared after a soldier in Nicaea during the period of Byzantine iconoclasm struck the original icon with a spear. According to tradition, when the icon was stabbed, blood miraculously flowed out of the wound, revealing her compassion and shared suffering with humanity. The icon reflects the Virgin’s deep love, protection, and intercession for all who seek her help, inviting contemplation, prayer, veneration, and spiritual connection.

This Theotokos Panagia Portaitissa icon is heat-adhered onto solid MDF wood and sealed with a durable black thermofilm laminate that wraps and seals the edges, resulting in a rich, clean finish. Each piece features a 45-degree routed edge on all four sides, giving it a refined, finished look. Available in two sizes: 16 x 21 cm (6" x 8") and 18 x 28 cm (8" x 11"), each with a uniform thickness of 3/4" (2 cm).

Since these icons are produced using a heat-press lamination process, subtle variations in border symmetry may occur—for example, one edge may appear marginally thicker than the opposite side. This is a normal characteristic of the thermolaminate process and does not affect the quality of the image or the structural integrity of the piece.
